Tree 1926

The drawing Tree 1926 shows a single tree standing on a bare patch of earth. The trunk rises straight, then splits into a few branches near the top. The rest of the sheet stays open, so the tree has room on each side.

MC Escher built the image with clean pen work, a method he used across many studies of nature and structure. The fine art frame gives the sheet a clear edge on the wall. A wood frame sits close to the natural tone of the trunk and keeps the eye inside the drawing.

A black frame makes the open ground feel heavier. The sheet works above a desk in a study. From the desk chair you see the full height of the tree, and the empty ground keeps the lower half quiet.
