Tree at Tretire

Tree at Tretire shows a trunk built from thick marks that cross over one another. The paint is pressed and scraped, so the surface holds ridges and gaps. Frank Auerbach works the tree into a dense field of earth tones and dark greens.

The fine art print keeps those rough marks sharp on matte paper. The frame finish can follow the room: a light frame on a dark wall, a dark frame on a pale wall, or a wood frame beside wooden furniture. The paper does not shine under a lamp, so the marks stay matte.

A hallway wall at shoulder height works well. From the stair you see the dark trunk shape first, then the small scraped lines as you pass.
