Two Cut Sunflowers — Fine Art

Two Cut Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh shows two stems with large yellow flower heads against a plain ground. Thick paint sits on the surface in short strokes. The yellow petals cross over each other and the green stems lean slightly.

From across the room the petals read as warm blocks of colour. Up close the small paint marks and the dark centre of each flower become clear. The fine art frame in white gives the picture a clear edge on the wall.

The white line keeps the bright yellow from feeling crowded. Place the print on a narrow hallway wall where the green stems face the doorway. You notice the yellow heads first, then the dark centres, as you walk past.
