About this work
Untitled - 1945 sits on a plain ground with broad colour patches spread across the sheet. The marks gather in loose groups rather than a neat grid. Charles Lapicque painted with this kind of open handling during the mid twentieth century. The work belongs to the modernist painting period.
This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper holds the flat colour areas without shine under a lamp. The frame sits flush around the printed sheet so the painted groups stay the focus.
It fits above a short bookshelf in a study. From the doorway you catch the loose groups and the calm ground. Step closer and the painted patches show their soft edges.
