About this work
Untitled - 1946 shows soft bands of colour laid over a pale ground. The marks stay loose and slightly uneven. Alfred Manessier built his post war work from washes and thin lines. You see the shape of the bands before the small shifts in tone. The fine art print keeps those tones flat and even.
The white frame gives the sheet a clean border on the wall. Against the pale ground the edge stays quiet and does not pull the eye away from the colour bands. The frame finish is plain and holds the image in place.
Hang it on the landing wall above a narrow console. From the bottom step you notice the soft bands first. Up near the shelf the lighter edges of each band show the hand drawn feel of the work.
