About this work
Untitled - 1965 by Donald Judd uses straight flat colour bands stacked one above the other. The blocks sit edge to edge with no overlap, so the picture reads like a measured row of panels. The colour changes from band to band without blending into the next one.
This fine art print set in a frame with a back panel keeps each edge clean and the tones even. The matte surface lets the flat colour stay flat under indoor light, so the hard lines between bands do not blur.
In a narrow hallway with one ceiling light, the stacked blocks become a steady rhythm on the wall. From the front door you see the sequence of colour blocks first, then the gap between each one.
