About this work
Untitled - Art Informel, Minimalism by Jiro Yoshihara shows a clean field with a small group of painted shapes. The marks come from the artist practice of Art Informel and Minimalism, where flat colour and simple forms meet on the sheet. You see a quiet arrangement of tone and shape, built with a steady hand and even paint.
The fine art print uses matte paper so the tones stay soft and there is no shine under a lamp. A light frame sits on a dark wall, or a dark frame on a pale wall, and the frame finish can follow the room.
In a hallway between two doors, the big shapes read first as you pass by. From the landing you see the flat colour, and in the corner the small differences between the tones stay clear.
