Untitled SF59-531 by Sam Francis shows open colour washes spread across a pale ground. The painted shapes leave gaps of the bare surface showing through. From across the room the wide field reads as one light block. Up close the edge of each wash turns soft where the paint thins out.

This fine art print uses a matte paper that keeps the greys and blues from shining. The frame finishes include white, wood, dark wood and black. A dark wood frame gives the picture a firm edge on the wall and keeps the open white space from fading into the room.

In a bedroom on the wall beside the bed the big pale field stays calm in the morning light. A visitor sees the soft wash shapes first, then notices the small gaps between them as they pass by.
