Untitled SFP92-15 SFF1671 opens on a pale ground where colour spreads in separate pools. The paint moves in broad areas with thin edges that fade into the surface. Sam Francis worked with acrylic and oil on canvas, often leaving parts of the ground bare.

This is a fine art print set in a frame, with a back panel. The matte surface holds the colour spreads without shine, so the thin edges stay soft under a lamp.

On a bedroom wall near a frosted window the shapes sit quiet at a distance, and the pale ground picks up the morning grey.
