About this work
Valley of the Creuse Grey Day shows a river valley under a flat grey sky. Broad strokes of slate and mud brown cover the land, with the water catching a dull strip of light. Claude Monet painted this kind of outdoor scene with loose marks and broken colour.
The fine art print keeps those soft greys flat on a matte sheet. A dark frame on a pale wall pulls the washed tones forward, while a light frame on a darker wall lets the valley fade back. The paper does not shine under a lamp, so the low colour stays even.
Hang it on a narrow hallway wall beside a coat hook. From the landing you see the grey bands across the valley, and from the mirror you notice the small broken strokes in the water.
