About this work
Variation Field of Tulips 1916 shows rows of flower shapes against a flat field. The petals sit in repeated bands, each one a little different from the next. Alexej von Jawlensky painted the forms with short strokes that keep the shapes readable from far away.
This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface lets the flower bands hold their softness without a shine. When you use the ready to hang option it arrives assembled, so the back panel and frame are already joined.
It fits a narrow hallway wall between two doors. From the foot of the hall you notice the rows of tulip shapes before the individual strokes. Standing closer you catch the uneven edges of each petal. The picture stays calm in that walking space.
