About this work
Vega-Lep - 1970 shows a set of stepped colour bands built from black and white rectangles with a few blue bars in between. The lines creep across the sheet in a steady rhythm. Victor Vasarely made this kind of optical colour work by stacking small shifts of tone so the eye reads movement where there is none.
This fine art print sits inside a white frame, a wood frame, a dark wood frame or a black frame. The white frame gives the stepped bands a clean edge. The black frame makes the blue bars stand out harder against the black and white blocks.
On a landing wall with a narrow strip of daylight from a side window, the black bars catch first, then the blue bars show up as you move past the door.
