Vessel, 1961

Vessel, 1961- shows a single shape on an open field. Helen Frankenthaler worked with thin paint laid into the surface. The shape reads as a broad band of stain against the lighter ground.

The edges stay open so the paint meets the bare paper. The fine art print is set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface keeps the wash soft and the light does not bounce off it.

You notice the stain and the open space together. It fits a reading corner wall where the lamp falls from the side. From there the band reads clearly and the open ground stays quiet.
