About this work
Washington D.C., January 1964 Number 4 - 1964 stays with a clear layout built from measured marks on a flat field. Edward Corbett worked in geometric abstraction with steady strokes and a limited palette. The picture reads as a set of plain bands and a few held edges.
This fine art version keeps the surface matte so the pale tones do not catch a glare. A light frame can sit on a darker wall, or a dark frame on a pale one. The metal hanger fits flush so the sheet stays level without a bump.
It works on a hallway landing where light falls from a side stairwell. From the turn you see the broad fields first. The thin marks show when you pass the next door.
