Wax Works IX

Wax Works IX - 1987 shows a patchwork of shapes built from small painted marks. The surface feels built up, like a study of form made from many quick decisions. Nancy Graves often worked this way, building shapes from repeated layers of paint and ink.

The marks sit near each other in a loose arrangement. You can see the pressure in each stroke. The fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel. It arrives assembled when the ready to hang option is used.

The matte paper keeps the lighter areas soft. The frame holds the surface clean and flat. Hang this on a hallway wall where the small marks catch the light from a ceiling fixture. From the landing you read the shapes first, then the brushwork.
