About this work
Red lines travel over a pale ground in What Red Lines Can Do by Helen Frankenthaler. The marks run in a few different paths with uneven pressure. Some lines stay thin while others widen where the brush slows. The paint sits on the sheet with a soak stain look that the artist used in her practice.
A light frame beside wooden furniture lets the red marks stay clear against the pale ground. The print is a fine art reproduction with a matte surface so the line edges stay quiet under a lamp.
On a study wall at shoulder height the lines read first from across the desk. You see the slower thick marks near the bookshelf before the thin ones near the door.
