About this work
A pale sheet carries a thin line near the top, the kind of mark Helen Frankenthaler made by letting liquid paint soak into paper. Window Shade No. 1, 1952- takes that soak stain method and leaves open colour in a few places.
This object is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper keeps the thin colour from shining, so the soak stain look reads the same from a short distance. The frame and back panel arrive assembled when the ready to hang option is used.
It works above a desk near a low window. From the chair you see the pale field and the top line, and up close the paper grain shows through the thin wash. The place stays quiet and the picture stays open.
