Yearning — Fine Art

Yearning - 1973 by Helen Frankenthaler shows a wide field of thin colour laid across the sheet. A band of darker stain runs near the lower edge. The upper half stays open and quiet. The paint seems to soak into the paper rather than sit on top.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The print is matte on the sheet. That finish keeps the colour flat and stops a shine under a lamp. You can hang it on a pale wall with a dark frame, or on a dark wall with a light frame.

It works on a bedroom wall above the bed. From the doorway the big stain reads as one shape. Closer you see the soft edges where the colour thins out. The room stays calm and the print does not shout.
