About this work
Fork 1940 shows a bent metal fork shape on a plain ground. The outline follows the handle and the two tines in one flat form. Alexander Calder made many wire and metal sculptures with simple everyday objects. This fine art print keeps that sculptural feel in a flat image.
The white frame gives the picture a clean edge on the wall. The thin line at the edge meets the flat fork shape without crowding it. The frame finish sits between the picture and the room.
It hangs above the kitchen sink where the light stays steady during the day. From the table you notice the cut shape of the tines first.
