Human Concretion — Fine Art

Human Concretion by Jean Arp shows rounded shapes that look like stone or bone set against a plain ground. The forms bend and lean without a clear outline, as if they were pushed into place by chance. This belongs to the surrealist and dada period, when artists let forms grow without a plan.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte surface keeps the grey and white tones from flashing under a lamp, and the frame gives the sheet a solid edge so the soft shapes stay calm.

In a bedroom, the print sits on a side wall above a low dresser. From the bed you see the round forms first, and when you pass by you notice the small shifts in tone between them.
