King Corpse by Sam Francis

A jagged white form floats on cobalt. Sam Francis’s *King Corpse* is the name he gave this constellation of drips and pools. Thin white skeins trace the upper edge, while thicker rivulets spill downward, pooling into irregular blotches. The blue beneath shifts from pale at the margins to deep indigo at the core. Crosshatching in the lower right corner suggests a grid half-erased. Hang it where morning light can slide across the surface—above a pale sofa or beside a narrow hallway console.
