About this work
Split Beat - 1965 by Gene Davis uses painted bands of colour that step through the sheet in one direction. The stripes run side to side, shifting in hue from one band to the next. The work follows the artist practice of colour band painting, where flat colour moves across the surface in steady steps.
The fine art print sits in a frame with a back panel and arrives assembled when the ready to hang option is used. The matte paper keeps the flat colour steady and holds each band without shine under a light.
It fits a long kitchen wall near the table. From the doorway you see the steady bands, and while washing dishes you notice how the colours step across the sheet.
