About this work
Untitled - 1971 by Fred Sandback hangs on a pale wall near a doorway. Thin lines of painted thread set up a space between the wall and the floor.
The work keeps a simple form and leaves the room open. The artist worked with thread and small strips to build these lines in space. You notice the lines catch light from the hall and shift as you pass by.
In a long kitchen the lines run along the back wall and draw the eye past the sink. The fine art paper gives a smooth surface that holds the painted line without shine. A dark frame on a pale wall makes the lines stand out by the door.
