About this work
Cliffs Ascending by Eyvind Earle shows steep rock faces rising on either side of a narrow valley. The shapes are cut with sharp lines and the sky is a pale wash of blue.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The painter built this kind of landscape with flat colour shapes and clear dark outlines. The frame gives the picture a clean edge on the wall. A white or black finish keeps the line work clear against the paper.
The dark wood finish sits close to the deep rock tones. You notice the ridge shapes first when you stand at the end of a hallway and look toward the far wall. The pale sky stays soft under that hall light.
