Interim — Fine Art

Interim - 1976 by Doug Ohlson shows a calm arrangement built from a few soft fields of colour. The picture uses the kind of broad painted shapes and careful ground that Doug Ohlson returned to across his years of working with acrylic and oil.

The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The white frame gives the sheet a clean border and sits quietly against the lighter parts of the picture. You see the painted shapes without a hard shadow around the edge, and the soft colour field stays open rather than boxed in.

In a bedroom, the picture hangs above the bedhead on the wall opposite the door. From the foot of the bed you take in the quiet fields, while the small shifts in tone show when you stand by the bedside.
