Scent — Fine Art

Scent by Jasper Johns uses muted grey and black marks laid over a warm grey ground. The marks rise and fall in different lengths, leaving open space between them. You see a sense of smell turned into a quiet arrangement of lines.

The paper holds a matte finish, so the soft tones stay flat under normal room light. A light wood frame beside wood furniture keeps the piece in the same tone range as the room. The fine art print keeps the marks readable without glare.

A narrow hallway wall works well for the picture, set above a console with a lamp nearby. From the end of the hall you see the long lines first, and the small gaps between them when you step closer.
