Window at Vers 1912 by Andre Derain — Fine Art

Window at Vers 1912 reads as a doorway cut into a plain ground. Thick strokes of warm brown and cool blue push the frame shape forward.

The view stays flat, with each colour block sitting beside the next without blending. From the far end of a long room the outline of the window holds its place against the wall.

Step nearer and the brushwork shows as separate hits of paint on the matte fine art paper. The print hangs high on a pale hallway wall, where a dark frame sits steady beside wooden floorboards. You see the colour blocks first, then the edge of the painted glass.
