Untitled - 1995 by Enrico Castellani shows a pale sheet with shallow relief built into the surface. The eye moves across the top of the pressed forms, then settles lower where the shadows gather.

The space around the marks stays open. The picture comes as a fine art print mounted in a frame with a clear edge on the wall. The white finish keeps the pale ground bright and lets the pressed lines stay soft without a heavy border.

A black finish gives the pressed lines a sharper outline against the pale field. Hang it in a dining room on the wall beside the sideboard. From the table you notice the soft shadows where the surface turns down, and the room feels quieter at supper.
