About this work
Beat - 1952 shows a single strong word pulled across a plain field. The letters shift in thickness and the eye follows them from one side to the other.
Alexander Liberman built the work from cut shapes and held edges, a method he used across his collage and studio practice. The fine art print is set in a frame with a back panel and arrives ready to hang when that option is chosen.
You notice the spacing between the letters first, then the flat tone behind them. It works well on the wall in a narrow hallway where the light comes from one side and the letters read as a single line moving past you.
