About this work
Gold Stopple Moonshot - 1972 sets a few warm marks on a darker ground. The gold tones sit against cooler shapes and the eye reads them one after the other. Betty Parsons often let forms emerge from open space and this picture follows that idea of leaving room around the shapes.
This fine art print uses paper with a matte finish so the gold stays dull and does not shine under a lamp. A light frame on a dark wall lets those warm marks pull forward against the darker background.
On a stairwell wall with a small light at the landing the gold marks read clearly from the bottom step. The darker ground stays steady and the picture reads as a quiet shape against the steps.
