Half Lemon

Half Lemon - 1969 shows painted bands of colour set across the sheet. The stripes run side by side in a steady rhythm, each one a different flat hue. Gene Davis worked in color field painting, laying down hard edge stripes with a brush and tape.

The fine art print comes ready to hang. The paper is matte, so the light bands stay soft and there is no shine under a lamp. A light frame sits on a dark wall, or a dark frame on a pale wall. The frame finish can follow the room, a wood frame beside wooden furniture.

On the landing wall above the stairs, you notice the broad colour bands first, then the narrower marks near the top edge. The print holds its own against the pale plaster.
