About this work
Street at Biskra 1906 shows a road in a North African town with buildings on either side and a sky above. The picture works in broad colour areas and clear outlines, a way Henri Matisse used in his early modernist painting.
The fine art print sits on paper that stays matte under a lamp, so the pale sky tones stay soft and the darker ground does not shine. A light frame works on a dark wall, or a dark frame on a pale wall, so the frame finish can follow the room you choose.
Hang it on a wall near a window, at eye level when you stand in the doorway. From there the flat colour areas read as one block, and from closer up the outline marks around the buildings come into view.
