Untitled - 1998 by Michel Majerus shows broad painted bands and a few sharp lines on a plain field. The eye starts at a heavy block of colour on the left and moves toward open space on the right.

The fine art frame in white gives the picture a clean border. The white edge keeps the bright bands from running off the sheet and makes the dark wash read as a solid block. You notice the layer of paint more because the frame does not add another colour.

On a dining room wall at the end of the room, the wide bands hold the eye across the space. The dark field settles behind the table, and the thin crossing lines show when you stand near the side door.
