About this work
Green bands cross the pale surface from edge to edge. Verde - 1999 shows these hard colour breaks the way Lygia Pape worked in concrete art practice. The strokes stay flat and the green reads against a quiet field. You see the repeated bands and the way each edge cuts clean across the sheet.
This fine art piece uses a light frame that follows the room, so the green bands sit on the wall without drawing the eye away from the colour breaks. The paper stays matte, which softens the green and keeps the pale field from shining under a lamp.
A narrow hallway wall works well, with the green bands facing the doorway. From the hall you notice the colour cuts and the pale ground, then you see the small frame edge as you pass by.
