About this work
Avalanche - 1996 shows a set of straight lines cut across a plain field. Francois Morellet often worked with grids, crossings and ruled marks, so the picture feels built rather than drawn. The lines run in a few directions and leave open space between them.
This fine art piece uses a white frame that gives the image a clean edge on the wall. The frame edge stays separate from the lines, so the marks do not run into the border. You can see where the picture ends.
It fits above a desk in a study. From the chair you notice the crossings first, and when you move in you see the thin gaps between each line.
