Townscape 1968 3 shows grey building shapes laid out in bands across the sheet. The paint stays blurred at the edges, so the forms drift into one another.

Gerhard Richter worked from a photograph and softened the image with paint. The marks read as a town seen through a hazy lens. This fine art print uses a matte paper that keeps the greys from turning bright.

The surface does not shine under a lamp, so the pale bands stay soft on the wall. A light grey frame sits on a dark painted wall near the top of the room. From the hallway you see the wide grey shapes before the door, and the blurred lines hold the eye.
