About this work
Broad painted bands cross the sheet in #18 - 1953 by Hans Hartung. The marks move in loose gestures, with gaps of bare paper between them. The eye follows the strokes from one side toward the middle, then rests in the open space.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The print keeps those soft tonal changes without a shine on the surface. A light frame on a dark wall lets the grey bands stay clear, while a dark frame on a pale wall gives the strokes more weight.
On a kitchen wall near the sink, the broad strokes hold the eye while you wait for the kettle. From the table you see the gaps between the bands, and the pencil lines at the edges come up when you pass by.
