Untitled T1938-31

Three long black lines run across the sheet in Untitled T1938-31 - 1938. The marks are thin and uneven, the spaces between them stay open.

Hans Hartung worked in this way, drawing fast gestural strokes that leave the background clear. A fine art print keeps those lines sharp on the paper.

The white frame gives the picture a clean edge that sits flat against the wall. On a bedroom wall the long lines lead the eye across the sheet, and the open ground stays quiet behind them.
