About this work
The painting Arch - 1971 by Howard Hodgkin uses colour built in layers, so warm tones sit next to cooler ones and the edges seem to shift as you look.
You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. Hodgkin worked with painted colour as his main tool, letting one tone answer the next. A white frame gives the picture a clean border that holds the soft colour steps without pulling attention away.
The print keeps that layered colour and the white edge sits quietly against the painted field. It works above the desk in a study, where the desk lamp throws a warm glow across the middle and the painted forms hold their shape while the room stays busy.
