Berkeley #57 — Fine Art

Berkeley #57 shows a painted ground with thin drawn lines and a few flat colour blocks sitting on top.

You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The shapes look measured, and the lines cross them at uneven angles. Richard Diebenkorn built these pictures from an abstract layout with a hint of a real place.

From the door you see the broad painted field first, then the pencil lines fill in when you step closer. On a kitchen wall beside a pale cabinet, a wood frame beside the table legs, the grey marks stay quiet under a warm bulb.
