Excalibur — Fine Art

Excalibur - 1960 reads as broad painted shapes set against a quieter ground. The title points to a named subject, but the surface stays abstract. Brush passes cross one another and some areas thin out while others hold their weight. Norman Bluhm worked in a post war style built on gesture and movement.

You get the fine art print with a hanger already on the back. The frame comes in white, wood, dark wood and black. A white frame keeps the painted ground open and lets the lighter passages stay soft. A black frame gives the marks a sharper line on the wall.

In a dining room the painted forms sit above a side table. From the doorway the piece reads as blocks of tone. You notice the uneven brush lines when you pass by.
