May 26th Backwards - 1961 shows a pale sheet with a few thin colour bands running across it. The paint sits flat and does not build up. A cool blue lane cuts beside a warmer umber one, and the edges stay uneven. You see the open ground between the strokes.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper holds the poured colour without a shine, so the thin washes keep their flat look.

On a hallway wall near the stairs the pale bands match the wood tones. From the landing you read the blue lane first, then the umber one beside it.
