Web #1 B — Fine Art

Thin white bands cross a black field in Web #1 B - 2002. The lines bend and meet at odd angles. From a wide distance the picture reads as a grid of narrow paths. You see the breaks in each band when you stand near the wall. Lygia Pape built this kind of work from repeated drawn marks and simple colour.

This is a fine art print set in a frame with a back panel. The matte paper keeps the white bands soft against the black, so the glare from a lamp stays low. The frame gives the image a fixed edge.

In a narrow office corridor the bands line up with the floor boards. Daylight from the door hits the print at a slant. The white lines stay clear while the black field holds its depth.
