About this work
Phenomena Compass Bearing - 1979 shows a painted field with soft bands of color that drift from one side to the other. The marks stay fluid and the edges blur as the paint settles.
The paper is matte, so the light tones stay flat and the darker washes keep their depth without shine. The frame finish can follow the room, a light frame on a dark wall or a wood frame beside wooden furniture. This fine art print keeps the color bands clear on the sheet.
It works above a dining table where the soft bands read across the room and the small shifts in tone show when you stand near the chair. The pale ground stays open and the eye moves along the painted line.
