About this work
Phenomena Sung Mantle - 1969 is a painted field where colour spreads in loose bands and thin lines move through the wash. The surface holds light and dark tones that shift as you change your angle. Paul Jenkins shaped these marks by pouring and tilting the paint across the sheet.
The fine art print uses matte paper so the wash stays flat and no shine catches the light. A light frame on a dark wall keeps the pale areas visible without washing them out. The paper holds the soft edges of the bands without going sharp.
It fits a study wall above a low desk where the desk lamp throws warm light across the lower band. You notice the slow drift of the darker tone first, then the thin line crossing it, from your chair.
