About this work
Last Piece 1958 by Philip Guston sets a few blunt forms against a flat painted ground. The painting uses heavy brush strokes and a narrow range of muted tones. The marks press forward and leave rough edges on the surface.
This fine art print arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame to buy. The matte paper keeps the heavy strokes from catching the light, so the tones stay even when you look at the picture straight on.
It fits well on the wall above a desk in a study, where the broad painted areas read clearly from the doorway. From the chair you notice the small breaks in the paint and the way the dark forms sit low on the ground.
