About this work
Trap - 2006 shows a field of small red and blue marks laid over a grey ground. The marks sit in loose clusters that do not quite line up. Raoul De Keyser builds the picture with these small separated forms. The work leans toward abstract painting rather than a clear subject.
A fine art print set in a frame with a back panel holds the colours without glare. The matte surface lets the fine red and blue spots stay separate from the grey. The frame and back panel keep the sheet flat on the wall.
On a narrow landing wall the small marks read as a pattern rather than a picture. Near a mirror the grey ground stays cool and the red spots catch the light. The clustered marks keep the eye moving across the sheet.
