About this work
Untitled - 2004 by Raoul De Keyser puts a few pale bands across a soft field. The marks move in loose strokes that leave room between them. The picture comes from the postwar Belgian painting practice where colour areas meet simple drawing lines. You can see the artist working with restraint here.
The print uses a fine art paper with a matte finish, so the grey tones do not catch a glare. A white frame gives the picture a clear edge against the pale ground. That frame edge holds the image in place on the wall without pulling focus away from the bands.
It fits a reading corner above a low desk. From the chair you see the bands spread across the top, and the lighter strokes come into view when you lean in.
