About this work
A painted field in Pastel I - 1971 by Robert Goodnough runs across the sheet with broad colour shapes stacked over one another. The eye moves from the pale bands near the top down to a deeper patch at the lower edge. Empty space between the shapes keeps the whole picture quiet.
The fine art print keeps the paint edges soft, so the pastel tones read as layers rather than sharp blocks. A light frame on a dark wall lets the pale middle stand out, while a wood frame beside wooden furniture ties the colours back to the room.
On a hallway wall where the morning light hits from the side, you see the top band first, then the deeper colour below. The short corridor keeps the view close, and the painted shapes stay clear without crowding the wall.
