About this work
Vertical Gray - 1985 opens on two broad painted bands set across a pale ground. The heavier band sits low and the lighter one drifts higher, leaving open space between them. Robert Goodnough built this kind of work with loose paint and thin drawn marks that sit apart from the colour.
The fine art print goes straight onto a nail. The sheet arrives ready to hang, with a metal hanger fitted to the back that goes straight onto a nail or screw. No separate frame is needed. That setup keeps the painting flat against the wall so the grey tones read without glare from a lamp.
It fits a narrow hallway wall where someone passes by each morning. From that distance the two grey bands hold the eye, and the faint drawn lines show when you stop to look.
